Ferdinand Bruckner

Ferdinand Bruckner, the son of an Austrian businessman, was born on August 26, 1891, in Sofia, Bulgaria. He studied music in Berlin. In 1916, he discovered Berlin’s vast literary scene and switched his studies to poetry. He began his own literary magazine, called "Marsyas," and, in 1922, founded the Berlin Renaissance Theater, beginning his theatrical career. Some of his plays include SICKNESS OF YOUTH, ELIZABETH OF ENGLAND and RACE, a play about the persecution of Jewish students. In 1933 Bruckner immigrated from Paris in order to flee the fascists. After moving to the United States for a few years, Bruckner returned to Berlin in 1951, where he died on December 5, 1958.
